GIMP type Software

Does anybody know of any free software that is like GIMP but a whole lot better. I want to try fireworks and the animation one but it just costs too much (might download it)

Sorry so what are you asking for here? good suggestions for a editor? such as photoshop?

I would download the adobe software, it's worth the time it takes to download.
